Points of unity

DISSENTERS POINTS OF UNITY

Domestic + Global

Militarism is the use of violence and coercion to control people and resources. Militarized US forces and institutions including police, prisons, ICE, and the military. We demand an end to both domestic and global warfare waged by the US – from police killings in our neighborhoods, to drone strikes abroad.

Solidarity with people + movements

We work in solidarity with everyday people impacted by US wars and militarism. We prioritize solidarity with the demands of grassroots liberatory movements wherever possible, not state powers.

We don’t undermine liberation struggles elsewhere

We don’t deny that there are other corrupt powers and oppressive military regimes. Many people are caught between several violent forces fighting for dominance. We take care not to undermine those allied movements elsewhere that are fighting their own battles for liberation. That means we don’t rally behind other government powers just because they aren’t aligned with US interests. We support liberation movements and everyday people that share our values.

Self-determination

We value the right of all people to determine the future of their own lives, except when at the expense of others. We don’t prescribe how other movements should relate to their own governments, or try to shape their demands or strategies. We focus on our role in dismantling US militarism, and respect the right of other movements to choose their own form of liberatory resistance.

We target elites

We know there are many individuals and systems that uphold US militarism, but we believe that political and corporate elites are ultimately responsible for endless wars. We focus our energy on taking away their power, and dismantling their systems.

Fight with and for all of us

We believe struggling against war and militarism means fighting for the liberation of women, and Black, brown, queer, trans, disabled, and stateless people around the world.

Disrupt + educate

We know building the world we deserve requires a diversity of strategies and tactics, and we support many approaches to change. We choose to use creative direct action and popular education as our strategic tools.
